Fabric direction & yardage — worth knowing:upholstery fabric runs one of two ways, and it affects seams and how much you'll need. Railroaded fabric runs sideways across the roll, so a long sofa can often be covered in one continuous piece — no seams, and frequently less yardage. Regular, or "up-the-roll,"fabric runs top-to-bottom; it's the standard for most patterns and for chairs, but on a long sofa it can require seams or extra yardage to keep the pattern upright and matched. If your fabric carries a pattern or a nap, we align it precisely across the piece, which adds some yardage — most noticeably on larger or multiple pieces.
